Lake Mountain Ski Hire opened a room at a small Guest House on the Woods Point Road in Marysville in 1980 (over 30 years ago! and the first in the area) before moving 2 years later to the main street.

In the early days Lake Mountain was a little known area frequented by a few die-hard cross country skiers and those who were encouraged to give skiing a go whilst staying in Marysville. Derek, the proprietor was one of those diehards, beginning his ski obsession in 1977. Oh how equipement has changed, european timbers with leather straps and bamboo poles are a thing of the past, replaced by stable, easy to use, comfortable ski gear.

As the mountain developed and more and more people discovered its existence, it undertook a program of infrastructure development which has continued to the point where there is now even a fully fledged resort that caters for over 150,000 visitors each year.

Derek & Chris Reynolds purchased the shop in 1986 and have run it ever since. Hmm... I wonder how old that makes them?

Who we are today

In 2012, we are very excited to announce that we have moved to 436 Maroondah Highway Narbethong which is adjacent to the BlackSpur Inn which is renowned for it's beautiful surrounds and exceptional dining. They will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner whilst also providing quality reasonably priced take away food and drinks. Their coffee is to die for.
